 Many people struggle on their path to    meditative states of consciousness, becoming downtrodden when their minds refuse to obey the orders to be silent and blank.  A cycle of periodic “empty” mind moments infiltrated by incoming thoughts erupts, infuriating the practitioner whom simply wants to achieve a peaceful state on their path to personal enlightenment.

For years, I grappled with these rules I believed surrounded meditation which kept me from achieving the insight I was seeking.  There were even times I thought I was just incapable of quieting my mind; it always seemed I had thoughts rushing in and out faster than I could realize them.

The story of Ernest Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition has been told many times.  I first encountered this heroic journey in Alfred Lansing’s book Endurance.  It’s a captivating story of survival and courage that lasted 634 days and involved some of the harshest weather conditions on the planet.

This crew of courageous men under the exceptional leadership of Shackleton have become for me an example of what it looks like to maintain hope while dancing with circumstances that would demoralize and make quitters out of most of us.

How to know if you’re having a kundalini awakening…

Kundalini2Someone very close to me is currently going through a rather intense kundalini awakening.  Although potentially a great blessing when this happens suddenly and in a short period of time and encounters blockages it can be uncomfortable and disruptive. If you don’t know exactly what is happening it can also be frightening. 

Phsysical symptoms range from – muscle spasms, to itching, vibrating, crawling sensations (especially over the charka points); feelings of intense heat or cold; involuntary bodily movements; alterations in eating (loss of appetite or much greater appetite) and sleeping patterns; extreme hyperactivity or, conversely, overwhelming fatigue; intensified or diminished sexual desires;  headaches, pressures within the skull;  Racing heartbeat, pains in the chest AND one of the major signs – digestive system problems (Kundalini resides in the abdomen and that this distention is due to a purification of this area).
